So last weekend marked an exciting time for Face Value Beauty Blog. I am venturing into the world of professional makeup artistry! HELLO new side hustle! I'm expanding my beauty obsession beyond myself and sharing my skills and tips with real, actual human beings rather than just the internet. Scary.

And where else to start than at the deep end? A WEDDING. Yep, the biggest beauty day of many people’s lives. Obviously I am far too risk-averse to start my career with a bride, so I started with 4 bridesmaids instead. Better or worse?!

I’m going to do a series of posts about becoming a professional makeup artist, for anyone that’s considered it or even just generally interested! Today I’m talking about the basic kit that I’ve pulled together and then next week I’ll do a post showing the final looks, the products and techniques used.

Be A Professional Makeup Artist. What's In My MUA Kit?

So my last post was a little introduction to my new Stila goodies, and now I've had some time to play, I did a little makeup look for you!!

I've firmly shut the lid on my summer makeup box but although the fake tans and bronzers have been put on the bench, the glowy look is STILL in. Dewy skin takes a bit of a backseat during summer because it can be mistaken for shiny-face sweatiness (blergh) but autumn/winter is when it really comes into it's own.

Today's look is a real "Sunday Morning" makeup look - really fresh faced, natural and glowing - but still polished and defined. The kind of "I'm not wearing any makeup" makeup which I frequently try to fool Mr FV with. I swear, I've spent absolute yeeeears trying to perfect it!

BEWARE - giant selfies ahead.

WHAT A DAY.

I've been up and about since 7am and I am absolutely pooooped. Today has been such a great day -I've been reporting on camera for Yahoo Lifestyle from LONDON FASHION WEEK. Me?! An accountant from Milton Keynes?!

It's gone so, so well today  - I've been to shows, I've been backstage, I've been ON THE FROW! I've interviewed lots of makeup artists and hair stylists for Yahoo and we've been covering the beauty look behind each show and the key trends we should be stocking up for as we come into AW14..... SOUND GOOD?

LFW SS15 Saturday! Photo summary.

As a self-confessed flat face, I'm a huge fan of contouring and highlighting. I've reviewed lots of blushers and bronzers which I use for the contouring part and now, it's time for the bright side!

When it comes to highlighters, there are so many types available it's hard to decide. Cream highlighters, powder highlighters - gold toned, pink toned - where do we begin? Do we need so many? Why does it come in so many colours?

Never fear my pretties, I'm here to lay it allllll down. If you are new to the world of highlighting - check out my MUA powder highlighter review  and my Where To Apply Touche Eclat for my attempt to draw diagrams...!

But if you're a seasoned highlighting pro, you know as well as I do that you want, desire and NEED the whole range of highlighters in your arsenal. Are you missing anything?

Here's my pick of the bunch.

Highlighter Highlights: Cream vs Powder? Benefit or MUA?

Have you heard that age-old fact that a woman swallows 6lbs of lipstick in her lifetime? 6lbs?! How much is that in grams .... *Googles it* ... 2700grams?! OVER 2.5 kilos??? Is that actually for reals?!

The more I think about what I’m putting on my lips or onto my skin, the more I start thinking I should go organic. Y’know, go back down the natural path? Avoid horrible parabens and petrochemicals - stick to the good stuff.

I touched on this a bit when I reviewed the lovely Korres WhiteTea Facial Gel Cleanser and I realised that the no-nasties approach should definitely be applied for my lip products. If you're gonna swallow over 2 kilos of this stuff, you’d rather it be a natural product right?!

Jokes aside on natural things you can swallow, in my opinion, the Burt’s Bees original beeswax lip balm is one of the most natural lip balms you can find at your local beauty dealer. Me and my friends have been a fan of that little yellow tube for quite some time now.

Here's the even better news..... Burt’s Bees have now launched a gorgeous new natural lip colour collection – all natural and free of artificial elements!

The new kids on the block are these stunning Burt's Bees Lip Glosses. 100% natural and packed full of Mother Nature’s moisture-makers – Jojoba, Sunflower and Botanical Oils – these lip glosses are priced at £8.99 and will be launching very soon!!

Burt's Bees Natural Lip Colour Launch

Following on from my previous lip contouring post, I thought I'd tell you about one of my favourite highlighters.

No, I'm not talking neon coloured pens and plenty of 'i'm revising, not procrastinating honest!'. I'm talking shimmery pearlescent powders or creams which catch the light and bring a touch of radiance to the skin.

I've used liquid highlighters before like Benefit Highbeam and YSL Touche Eclat but I prefer a powder like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish as I have combination/oily skin and a tendency to freak out over anything that will potentially block my skin.

The MAC Mineralize Skinfinish retails at £22 though - which may be outside some budgets I know - so FEAR NOT.

Here's a fabulous alternative which (in my opinion) works just as well.

This fabulous Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter from MakeUp Academy (MUA) was given me to the equally fabulous Miff from Blot & Reapply as part of a blog swap. Please do check out her blog!

I'd always wanted to try it. A lot of bloggers have been raving about it and it's only £3!

But does it work as well as the more expensive highlighters our there?
