So last weekend marked an exciting time for Face Value Beauty Blog. I am venturing into the world of professional makeup artistry! HELLO new side hustle! I'm expanding my beauty obsession beyond myself and sharing my skills and tips with real, actual human beings rather than just the internet. Scary.

And where else to start than at the deep end? A WEDDING. Yep, the biggest beauty day of many people’s lives. Obviously I am far too risk-averse to start my career with a bride, so I started with 4 bridesmaids instead. Better or worse?!

I’m going to do a series of posts about becoming a professional makeup artist, for anyone that’s considered it or even just generally interested! Today I’m talking about the basic kit that I’ve pulled together and then next week I’ll do a post showing the final looks, the products and techniques used.

Be A Professional Makeup Artist. What's In My MUA Kit?

As I mentioned in my post, Downtime, there's been a bit of a silence because I've been moving flat, but also because I've been on holiday! Yay for holidays!

Every time I go on holiday I always keep an eye out for beauty buys which aren't available in the UK. I've brought back velcro hair slides from Hong Kong, P2 Lip Peeler from Berlin, Princess lipsticks from Malaysia but the ABSOLUUUUTE epitome of 'beauty not available in the UK' can very easily be summed up in one example. That example, my dear readers, is Sephora.

First things first, I need to get this off my chest - WHY DO WE NOT HAVE A SEPHORA IN THE UK?!?! More exclamation marks needed.

I remember we used to have one back in like 2002 but this was before my age of makeup enlightenment and all I bought from there were those bath foam capsules shaped as dolphins and hearts - which were quite useless - HOW NAIVE I WAS.

Flashforward another decade and this time, when I encountered Sephora in an out-of-town Portuguese shopping mall....I was prepared!! (and no longer interested in those bath capsules)

An hour in Sephora AND during the sale season - does it get any better?! There was reduced Benefit, reduced Lancome and eventually, poor Mr FV reduced to boredom.

Shall we see the spoils of my shopping trip!?

Beauty Buys From Portugal (via Sephora)

There comes that time in your life where you start to make a more permanent move from Tesco Value to Tesco Finest and, for me, it's the same with makeup.

Let me tell you what I mean. Although I've dabbled in the occasional Lancome or Benefit product, I've spent the majority of my makeup years buying beauty-aisle brands and online budget beauty. As I've progressed with my career I've started to branch out but the big leap from high-street to high end can only be immortalised by one brand - and that's Chanel.

That's right - it's taken me a few years to get here but this month I bought my first bit of Chanel Beauty. A little healthy-glow compact which came with it's own velvet pouch. Say what?! How have I not gone high-end sooner?

What is this MASTERPIECE before me?

This, dear friends, is the new addition to the Chanel Les Beiges collection and the latest addition to my make up bag!

Today's review has generated a lot of questions from my Instagram and Facebook followers. Mainly, ZOE, WHAT IS THIS and WHERE DID YOU GET IT FROM?

Seasoned beauty fiends out there are probably laughing to themselves at the ignorance of it all - it's CLEARLY an Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. These Naked Palettes have been flying off shelves for months now, ready to cover the nearest eyelids with glorious, glorious rose-toned bronze.

But is it a Naked 3? Look closely.... You doubt yourselves now, don't you?

Well, what if I told you, it will cost you exactly £3.63 to purchase today.

Yahh, it's definitely NOT by Urban Decay then...

The Story.

With the sun very slowly making it’s way out, it’s time to start thinking about summer beauty essentials and bringing out the products which get pushed to the back of cabinet over winter - the most obvious of which begins with a B…and ends with RONZER.

Yes yes, clever you for guessing, I’m talking about that ultimate shimmery hit of tan which indicates lots of time spent outdoors, doing something extravagantly healthy like volleyball or hiking in the country, or, if you’re less actively-inclined (like me), your tan is obviously gained by stylishly lazing on a nearby coast.

I actually tan quite evenly and easily – the only ever time I had sunburn, I genuinely thought that I’d just suffered an allergic reaction to something!! I kid you not.

Therefore, I’ve only really used matt bronzers before - y'know, for contouring and adding a bit of brahhn and colour to my otherwise uninteresting skin. However, the last winter has really been, what I like to call, an epiphany of glow! I’ve gone from a matte-finish fanatic to a dewy skin seeker. AND, if that wasn’t enough of a change – my promotion last year also means that I can finally treat myself to the occasional high end beauty product! Nice one.

With me so far? Cheap, matte bronzers 2013, fancy, glowy bronzers 2014! I feel like a beautiful bronzed butterfly emerging from the ashes. But what’s the product that I’ve gone for this time?

It’s only the infamous Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick (complete with mini Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush) HIYA.

And the good news is.... I'M GIVING ONE AWAY TOO!

Read on for details on HOW TO WIN.

When it comes to my everyday makeup face, I’m loving the dewy, glowing look these days. Namely because the evils of winter weather have dulled my skin and also because glowing skin makes me look a lot healthier outside than my normal McDonalds & mojitos diet would suggest.. (seriously though, LOVE a late night Mcdonalds after a couple of mojitos)

Enter the world of cream blush. I’ve already been raving about how natural and healthy cream blush makes you look when I reviewed the Maybelline Dream Bouncy blushers. Given that they were only available in the US, I was asked for my thoughts on a UK cream blush.

So, let’s not beat about the b(l)ush – here it is!

The elf Cosmetics Cream Blush and Bronzer. I know Im totally cheating because really, it’s two products into one case, but hey – IT’S TWO PRODUCTS in ONE CASE – what could be bad about that?!

Yes, yes, I know I've committed the cardinal blogging sin and taken pictures after it's been used but hey - I'm only human. I rush to use new products straight away, and deal with consequences later. Take THAT blogging etiquette!

My Initial thoughts?
