eSalon - A Match In Haircare Heaven & Posted To Your Door
Did you know the average human loses 50 to hundred strands of hair a day? I don't know whether I'm just a hair shedding freak of nature but I probably moult double that! Thank god I've got wooden floors...
This actually reminds me of a weird story where I was 9 years old and in a shop in Malaysia. I felt a tap on my shoulder it was the shop assistant who then proceeded to hand me one of my stray hairs. The worst thing was that I was so embarassed because he was relatively good looking and I was like ohmagoddd a guy is speaking to meee.
Years later, I've since realised that giving hairs to young girls is probably not socially acceptable behaviour (not to mention downright weird - like hair-sniffing guy from Charlie's angels) but at the time I just said thanks, held onto it and dropped it on the street some minutes later. THANKS?! What was I thinking? I make a gift to you of thine own hair, why thank you kind squire.. what?!

Anyway, reminiscing aside, this somewhat brings me onto the topic of today. HAIR LOSS.
Over the last few weeks I've been trying this Anti-Hair Loss Hair Oil by Old Wives Tail. Old Wives Tail is a small haircare company which sells handmade 100% organic products with zero additives or chemicals.

First of all - kudos for the name! Zoe Dubs loves a good pun and play on words.
Second of all - this stuff is good! Completely different to the commercially produced hair oils of now, this Old Wives is made with Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Almond, Lavender and Clove oil. It literally feels like minty olive oil in my hand and the consistency is relatively easy to work with.
The Old Wives Tail hair oils actually come in a range and this is the anti hair loss version. As such, the formula includes natural anti-bacterial agents which soothe the scalp. This gives it a herbal, almost medicinal, smell which is a refreshing change to the sweet, flowery scents of regular hair oils. This one just screams "im sooo good for your scalp!"
Application is simple enough - apply to scalp and lengths, massage, let it sit as long as possible and then rinse out.
This jar is probably enough for about 5 applications on long hair, this is how much I used in 2 uses.
The smell is definitely unique and, in combination with the slightly tingly feel on my scalp, is actually super calming when in the shower.
The only downside for me is the application - put it in a bottle!!! Scooping out the jar is both unhygienic and a big PAIN in my butt. Thankfully I like this product enough that it won't last long enough to really cause a problem...
Other than that, my scalp felt refreshed, my hair was bouncier and I was really pleased with the results! I wouldn't say that this Old Wives Tail oil is a hair repairing oil though. My hair did feel stronger and healthier but this oil isn't targeted at repairing brittle hair. It's a lot, lot lighter than argan oils like Macadamia Oil so it can go into your roots, that's the winning difference for me.
You can find out more about Old Wives Tail and their products here
Priced at £13.99 (but currently on offer for 9.99), I would buy this again. Mainly because it smells like no other hair oil I've used. It feels like it's really good for your scalp! Just wish it was in a bottle!
Is packaging a big deal for you or do you decant your own?
I'd love to have pretty bottles and jars for stuff but I'm nowhere near enough organised.
Also - do you think you lose 100 hairs a day?! Thinking about it, 100 is quite a lot!

Hair Loss Help from Old Wives Tail Hair Oil
Heat styling, Hair colouring and Backcombing are like the three horsemen of the Hair Apocalypse to me. And when it comes to judgement time, I bet my hair will be pronounced by the Beauty Gods as an over processed, split-ended mess. Oh noes. But is there anything I can do to prevent the end of my hair as I know it?
PERHAPS. Today I'm seeking penance in the name of Dove Intensive Repair Self Warming Mask which is designed to strengthen and revive damaged hair from the inside out. Billed as 'the hair hero we've been waiting for', it uses heat to restore shine and gloss and is meant to leave hair up to TEN times more resilient against future damage. Ten times!
I was lucky enough to be sent the Intensive Repair Mask to try but was it a hair hero........or a hair zero?

When I was young, I wanted to have long hair like Rapunzel... Long, shiny tumbling tresses which I could style and wear as I please. Amazing hair which I could use to ensnare the adorations of Eddie Redmayne lookalikes everywhere.
However, now that I've grown up and actually grown my hair past my shoulders, I've realised that The Brothers Grimm forgot to mention one small fact - long hair is a HASSLE. Knots, tangles, painful pulling - the only thing I'm ensnaring here is unsuspecting small animals..
All is not bleak in the world though dear Reader. Every now and then, comes an invention which makes maintaining long hair that bit easier and the No Tangle brush (part of the Macadamia Natural Oil range) is one of them!

Look familiar?
It looks similar to a Tangle Teezer right? But with an additional handle? (I reviewed the Tangle Teezer here)
I'll be honest, they're very similar except for in shape but you can still hold the No Tangle brush like a horse brush if you like - a girl's gotta have options!
What's the difference?

No Tangles, No Tears: Macadamia Natural Oil No Tangle Brush
Picture this. It's Saturday afternoon and you're going out-out at 8pm.
It's now 5pm. Do you:
a) Decide to be productive, do useful things and live your life for the next 2 hours?
b) ...Start getting ready?
Any normal person chooses a)
However, any pampered product-obsessive with nothing better to do puts a hair mask on, throws a bath bomb in the tub, puts her hair in rollers and puts a full face on.
And that is what Zoe Dubs did next...

So Saturday's post already covered the Lush bath-time bliss - I'm here to talk about hair. And BIG hair at that.
Let's go back to basics.

I've not been a fan of hair oils for a long time. I find them hard to apply evenly all over the hair and I can never get the right balance of too much vs too little. I normally end up with flat hair with lank patches and very messy hands.
But hey, Brad divorced Jen, the Spice Girls became 4 - sometimes THINGS CHANGE.
And I have officially changed my opinion on hair oil, thanks to a little trial of the new Got2b Oil-licious styling oil.
This product is designed for everyday use to nourish, strengthen and provide glorious shiiiine to hair.
It contains Argan Oil - the wonderkid that's the heart of the Morrocanoil formula which has been taking the haircare world by storm - as well as some other goodies like vitamin E. MMMM.
1. Pre-wash : Applying oil before getting into the shower gives extra care to damaged hair. Wet hair breaks a lot easier than dry hair, so applying an oil beforehand helps detangle locks before they get wet.
2. Pre-style : Apply a pump of this to towel dried hair for more manageable styling, frizz prevention and added protection
3. Dry styling : The oil can be used on dry hair, like a serum, for a touch of moisture, sleekness and calm whenever you need it

Face Value Tip: You've heard of pre-cleanse for face, so why not for hair? A pre-oil treatment prevents over-cleansing of the hair which is great for scalps already stripped of moisture.

Gotta be delicious with Got2b Oil-licious!
Cold weather and central heating, not to mention ultra-max GHD use for all those Xmas parties has led my hair having split ends and coarse tips. Yuck.
Fortunately for those in my position, the product range out there for damaged hair is rapidly growing. Nourishing masks, sprays and oils can all be applied to wet hair, either after shampooing or after your shower, and now dry hair is getting a slice of the action too!
Hair Masks
Cream masks are all over the commercial market - you apply these after shampooing and leave for 5 minutes to allow the mask to penetrate the hair. I find these the easiest to use mainly cos they're there in the shower as a constant reminder and I just apply them everytime I wash my hair. Voila.
I'm currently using L'Oreal Everpure Colour Care Intense Mask. It's a very unique smell - Rosemary and Mint - and I actually quite like it in a bizarre aren't-these-herbs-for-eating sort of way. This is part of the Sulphate-Free range released by L'Oreal and is basically a sort-of Organic range.
Sulphates are suspected to cause frizzing and are meant to be more damaging to coloured hair. BOO! Get rid? In my eyes, the less chemicals in it, the better - assuming that they haven't replaced the chemicals with something else naughty!

TLC for Dry and Damaged hair
Its finally the end of 2012 and what a year it’s been! This blog is officially 8 days old, with a Twitter account, a Facebook page and almost 800 page views! Thanks again to everyone who’s supported it thus far, hope you all have a very special new year.
Now, mushiness aside. TO BUSINESS.
2012: My favourite Beauty buys
For me, 2012 was the year of the eyebrow! This year, I upgraded my entire brow kit, buying an angled 266 brush from Mac, the Benefit Browzings kit (pictured right), and the ELF Treat&Tame Brow gel.
I’m still trying to get the shape right - I tend to alternate between “power brows”, heavy and angular, and my daily brow - an enhancement of my natural brow shape. The Browzings kit comes with two shades to work with, the darker wax helps hold the shape but I only used both powder and wax on a 'power brow' day. Powder alone is great for a natural look. It also comes with mini tweezers and brushes all in a mirrored compact so is perfect for on-the-go and travel times! Definitely a good companion for those of you who find yourself doing your face on the way to work!!
Once I get my Youtube channel sorted, I’ll do an Eyebrow special..
Moving onto the world of haircare, this year for me was all about the FOAM DIY JOB. Normally a home hair dye job is all about avoiding drips on the carpet, but the introduction of the foam has meant I no longer need to cover my carpet with plastic bags and newspaper. Hooray!
It has also meant that the colour distribution is much more even as the foam is much easier to spread with your fingers rather than trying to comb through a liquid dye.
I used to use Schwarzkopf Live XXL in a vibrant red shade - it works really well with stubborn dark hair that refuses to pick up colour. I used it for absolutely years and I really recommend it to anyone looking for a strong vibrant look.
However, since I started my proper grown-up day job, I’ve toned the red down and now use John Frieda Precision Foam Colour in Deep Cherry Brown in order to give a little bit of a burgundy kick without being too office-offensive. All you DIY hair-dyers out there- once you try foam, you will not go back!
Eyeliner gel finally appeared on the commercial market, meaning that I no longer had to fork out for Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner. My Boots favourite this year was the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner - it glides on smoothly and is an intense sooty black which stays true to its colour, not like some brands which look dark but come out almost grey! It comes with the perfect brush (full sized!) and is currently on a buy one get one half price at Boots, holllaaaa. My tip is to keep the brush clean otherwise it hardens - easily prevented by swiping it on cotton wool soaked with makeup remover..
Another huge hit amongst my pals was hair oil, but I’m still deciding on my favourite. Argan? Morrocan? Jojoba? To be honest, I find hair oil quite tricky to apply evenly. I much prefer a spray-type product otherwise I end up with heavy greasy patches! Lanky hair, oooh.
There are some great repair-type products out there that use oils to some extent within their formulas but are easier to apply - such as Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner which I use as a nourishing spray before blow-drying.
Finally - my favourite. This year I discovered the wonder of eyelash fibres. Little pots of fibres that coat your lashtips and make them look supremely longer than they are!
After wearing false eyelashes every time I went out-out, I started doing my own individual eyelash extensions. This finicky process took their toll on boh my patience and my eyelashes, needless to say I only have extensions for special occasions like holidays now.
There's far too much to talk about in this one post, soI will be doing a whole blog post on this next year. For now, rest assured that you dont have to splash out £35 on the ModelCo lash fibres - obviously, I have found a cheaper and better subtitute....
Speaking of Value, my big discoveries this year have been Cashback websites , rewarding credit cards (post coming soon) and the joy of signing up to the Pizza Express newsletter who keep offering me great excuses to eat more glorious doughballs!
Final Course
No more blog talk now- my family are on their way to bring in the New Year and I have foolishly agreed to put on a 5 course FEAST. Apologies in advance to my family for my cooking. I think lots of alcohol wil be needed by all....
Have a truly Happy New Year! xXXXx
